About the Author

Chia-Shun Yih (1918 – 1997), born in Kweiyang, China, was Stephen P. Timoshenko Distinguished University Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan. He is remembered by his trainees as a truly inpiring instructor whose interest and enjoyment for his topic were infectious.

His released work consists of well over 100 clinical documents and 2 books: Fluid Mechanics: a Concise Introduction to the Theory and Dynamics of Nonhomogeneous Fluids — later modified as Stratified Flows

His many honors consist of the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Alexander von Humboldt Senior Scientist Award (Germany), the Theodore von Karman Medal (Amer. Soc. of Civil Engineers), the Henry Russel Lectureship (University of Michigan), the Stephan S. Attwood Award (Univ. of Michigan), the Fluid Dynamics Prize (Amer. Physical Soc.), and the Otto Laporte Award (APS).
