Competence, book the third in the Custard Protocol, very much lives up to the adventurous frivolity of the series. I enjoyed watching Primrose evolve and come in to her own. I can’t wait to see how the Spotted Custard crew handles the new challenge aboard the decks. I loved meeting the new creatures in the world and finally getting a plausible cause for California’s inane beauty standards. Brava, Miss Carriger, you’ve done it again!

ARC, part 3 in the Custard Protocol series. The glorious Spotted Custard, (the red and black dirigible owned and captained by Prudence Akeldama Maccon, Rue to her friends) is out and about making the world unsafe again. This book however is mainly from the point of view of the honurable Primrose Tunstell, as she is the focus of this lovley story. However Professor Percival Tunstell supplies additional insights occasionally, surprisingly insightful ...

Also posted on Rally the Readers.* An eARC was provided by the author for review.4.5 StarsIt’s been a while since we last checked in with the motley crew of the Spotted Custard, but the newest installment in Gail Carriger’s The Custard Protocol series was absolutely worth the wait! I didn’t realize how much I missed this group of adorably quirky characters until I started reading Competence. The title is very fitting here, as the novel focus...

Honestly, I came into this book with the highest expectations and Carriger met them all. Not for the plot perse, the background reasons to go where they go and do what they do are always interesting but not the main pull of the this particular book. Instead, I found myself drawn to Prim, to Tasherit, to Anita, even Percy. Seeing the characters from within their own heads, the assumptions they make, the choices and the reasonings, the way they see...

3.5 starsThis was delightful as an adventure yarn (of the steampunk variety) that brought many previous characters together.I kept feeling like I was missing something of a build up to Prim's romance and felt out of the loop with certain characters. Then when I researched a little, I noticed I hadn't read the previous 2 books in the series. So that explains that lolEven with my lack of some background it's pretty easy to dive in to the adventures...

4.5 Stars. A playful and witty adventure from Prim & Percy's point of view that was a pure delight of a read and my favorite of the series so far! While another vampire race is discovered (unnerving but fascinating), most of the book follows the Spotted Custard's general floating adventures exploring the natural and supernatural world while Primrose comes to terms with her sexual preferences. There were a few bits of customary series sexuality (l...

Another wonderful, smashing, hilarious and adventurous novel by Gail Carriger. Honestly, she just keeps getting better and better. The story is told from the perspective of both Percy and Primrose, and I have to say, it’s a refreshing look at the world! I especially love Percy and his unique outlook on life, even if he can be a bit too honest sometimes. The novel contains everything you could want: dirigibles, vampires, romance, and biting dial...

LOVED IT!Once again, Miss Gail has delivered a fabulous book to her fans! Strong female characters (and strong characters all around), adventure, friendship, family, suspense, and laughter all rolled into this book. I don't want to spoiler anyone but I did thoroughly enjoy this book. I can't wait for the next (and final one of the series) to come out!

Still processing a little but Miss Gail doesn't fail us. The dual POV is awesome, the twins Primrose and Percy Tunstel are so different but in some ways so alike and I'm already looking forward to more Percy in the next book. There are revelations, mild satire and strong core of family running through this part of The Custard Protocol and I thoroughly enjoyed it

This fast-paced adventure gives readers insight into a fan-favorite character, while revealing more about the supernatural. The vampires in this book are fascinating and make logical sense within the book's universe. Ms. Carriger, as always, treats different societies and classes with respect and research for how they would have been at that time in our own history.

Such a wonderful book! I love all of Ms Carriger's books but this one has it all. World travel, adventure, exotic countries, new supernatural creatures and of course a dash of love. I also enjoyed a book from Prim's POV. I never thought she would be a favorite character but here we are.

I loved this book so much! It was very exciting to come back to the characters from the previous books in the series and find out what was happening next, as well as meet some new characters. I'm already excited for the next!
