Puddin' (Dumplin', #2) by Julie Murphy

Puddin' (Dumplin', #2)

It is a companion novel to Dumplin', which follows supporting characters from the first book in the months after Willowdean's star turn in the Clover City pageant. Millie Michalchuk has gone to fat camp every year since she was a girl. Not this year. This year she has new plans to chase her secret dream—and to kiss her crush. Callie Reyes is the pretty girl who is next in line for dance team captain and has the popular boyfriend. But when it co...

4.5 stars!!! Puddin’ is such a wonderful, feel good YA book. I am a huge fan of Julie Murphys after reading Dumplin’, and now Puddin’ and I was lucky enough to meet her this past weekend and get an autographed copy of both books! Eek! This book has two main characters/narrators. The first is Millie. Millie is amazing. She would have been my BFF in HS. Heck, in many ways, I was a lot like her in school. I loved how she was always positive, f...

Every Julie Murphy Book just gets better and better. Did I cry? Of course! Did I laugh? Of course! But mostly I cheered! My full review will be up on my booktube channel at http://Youtube.com/peterlikesbooks

The thing I love about Julie Murphy books is that they are funny and full of heart. They're like a warm, fuzzy blanket and a mug of hot chocolate on a chilly day. Julie makes even the prickliest of characters sympathetic. For those who loved Dumplin', this will be a delightful follow up. But if you didn't like Dumplin, Puddin isn't going to do it for you. These books are companions in the best sort of way, and for those who wanted to know what cam...

Review can also be found on my blog. Super big thanks to Edelweiss+ and the publisher for letting me read an e-arc of this.This. Book. Was. So. Stinkin'. Sweet.WARNING: Reading this book too quickly may put you at an increased risk for Type 2 Diabetes.I seriously adore Millie with all my heart. Heck, even mean girl Callie grew on me. I didn't think that was going to be possible but Julie Murphy is some kind of a magical unicorn woman. She knows ...

3.5 stars I loved Dumplin’ so I knew I would be reading Puddin’ when I found out it was happening. And honestly, I was a little let down that it wasn’t the girl romance that cover and synopsis made me think it was. Millie and Callie are okay MCs. Mille is ridiculously positive and Callie is ridiculously negative and while I liked them well enough, I didn’t feel connected to either of them. I didn’t care for the way Callie’s actions we...

"If Neville Longbottom and Luna Lovegood had a baby, it'd be you.""I'm not sure you mean that as a compliment, but I'm going to take that as one, because Luna and Neville forever."As much as I've liked Murphy's previous books, I've never loved them. PUDDIN' is the closest to perfect I've had yet to have with this author. So I'm rounding this one up because while it wasn't an easy, or solid, four.. it wasn't too far off the mark. "Luke and Nikolai...

Julie Murphy has run away with my heart yet again. I swear this woman writes stories just for me (ok not really, but damn it feels like it). She’s back, in Clover City, to tell Millie & Callie’s stories. One minute I’m laughing, then the next I’m counting my tears, right alongside some of the characters. It’s a full range of emotions that I’ve become so familiar with while reading a Julie Murphy novel. She knows how to write a story f...

I've been sitting on writing this review for a couple of days because I just don't know how to express my love for this book and Julie Murphy. Puddin' offers so many great aspects and I simply enjoyed all of them.In Puddin' we follow the perspective of Millie, Willowdean's friend from Dumplin', and Callie, basically Willowdean's arch enemy. I don't think you necessarily have to have read Dumplin' to go into Puddin' but it makes for a much better ...

3.5 Stars “I guess … well, that’s what stories do. They connect people. Stories change hearts and then hearts change the world.” So this book was sweet and hilarious. Puddin’ follows Millie Michalchuk and Callie Reyes after circumstances force the pair together. The girls, who are as different as can be, start to develop one unexpected friendship. Things I Liked I loved Millie. I thought she was this effervescent bubble of sunshine a...

I have so many feelings about this book and I doubt I will explain them well.  I absolutely love the way Julie Murphy writes.  Her words are touching, but there is always a lot of humor, too.  Her characters are so easy to relate to and I end up loving them.Millie   I adored Millie.  She was definitely my favorite person in this book.  Millie was in Dumplin', but this time the story is about her and Callie.  Millie is overweight and she m...

Thanks to the publisher and Edelweiss for this review copy!ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Body-positive, fat-positive, kick-a** females and a whole lot of wit. This book is an amazing follow up to Dumplin' and I don't want this series to ever, ever end! This is required reading for every mother, every daughter, and everyone on earth who could use an affirmation or reminder that ALL BODIES ARE BEAUTIFUL. And all dreams are worthwhile and worth fighting for. ...

Don't mind me over here crying like a little baby. Julie Murphy's books, man- they just make me feel seen! The characters, the tenderness, the open explorations of how to become the person you want to be, the special insights into the challenges of being a (mostly) (somewhat) unapologetic fat girl.I mean, Dumplin' and Puddin' both pretty much read like they're taken straight from my Most Perfect Fat Girl Fairytale Checklist. Let's see:-Actual f...

What happened when the resident mean girl was forced to work with one of the kindest, sweetest misfits in town? They formed an unlikely friendship, which had its ups and downs, but was mostly heartwarming.•Pro: EVERYone loved Millie when she made her appearance in Dumplin', and I am happy to report, that she was more than capable of carrying a book on her own. Her positive outlook and zeal for the little things was contagious, and she was just ...

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!! Definitely favor this one over Dumplin’ by far. I loved how it was from two different perspectives from two completely different people. I loved getting two see how they both collided in each others world! The character growth was phenomenal as well. I really can’t think of any reason why I would dislike the book - which is rare for me lol! I couldn’t stop reading!! I also looooved the plot line. Well thought out, and e...

Thank you Edelweiss for providing me a free review copy in exchange for an honest reviewI've always had a weird relationship with Julie Murphy's books, especially Dumplin'. She writes stories that are just interesting enough to draw attention, but sucker punch you with a twist you weren't expecting to keep you interested. A girl gets cancer and preforms her bucket list only to go into remission. A lesbian question her sexuality when she develops ...

4.5 starsI really enjoyed reading this! It's been a while since I read Dumplin', but getting the chance to read Puddin' early was really awesome. I didn't realize how much I missed Julie Murphy's writing until I started reading this. There's just something about how Murphy manages to tie everything together and make it come full circle. Especially with Puddin' and its two storylines, I think Murphy did a really great job with the shaping of the sto...

ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review.Rating: 3.75/5YA Contemporary isn’t usually my jam but if more of them were like this, I’m reading it more often. Fans of Becky Albertalli and Angie Thomas will enjoy Puddin’ for its humour, heart, and unapologetic quality. It’s a book I wish I had as a teen because it touches on identity, body positivity, representation, family relationships, and friendship over competition.I...

Puddin' is the YA contemporary companion/sequel to Dumplin'.Do you have to read Dumplin' in order to read this book? You don't have to read Dumplin' first however I would definitely recommend it. The narrators of Puddin' were supporting characters from the first book. And most of the characters from the first book appear in this book. I think that knowing Willowdean's story in Dumplin' will be extremely beneficial to understanding this story.This...

While I enjoyed Dumplin' I absolutely LOVED Puddin' and devoured the delightful read in a single day (that's two days in a row I picked up excellent books that I finished late into the night, I've been on a roll :)). Set in the same town and school as Dumplin' we're reunited with Willowdean, Bo and Ellen but they're side characters to the tale of Millie and Callie in this one. Not going to lie, I didn't remember much about these characters from D...

4.5 starsI received an ARC of this from a local bookseller. Julie Murphy knows how to write a bada$$ teenage character. I freaking love Millie and I hated Callie the appropriate amount, her recipe for their unlikely friendship was crafted to a “T.”I admit I was suspicious going in that I could love a character as much as Willowdean, but Millie is pretty darn lovable. The themes in this one ring similar to Dumplin’: the importance of making ...

A true companion to DUMPLIN', with a delightful spirit and genuine humour and heart. Female friendships can be really complex and layered, but Julie Murphy cuts right to the core of it for Callie and Millie. She gives them space to be complicated and selfish, just as she gives them room to learn and grow. PUDDIN' is exactly the kind of book I wish I could throw across space and time to give to my teen self.Full review to come closer to release da...

Puddin’ is a delightful, uplifting, and empowering novel about friendship, fitting in and standing out - for all the right reasons. Millie has no intention of returning to Fat Camp this summer. She just hasn’t told her mother yet. Millie dreams of becoming a journalist, even if it means she must stand up to the people who would attempt to dissuade her. Callie has the perfect life -boyfriend and co-captaincy of the dance team. But when a dance...

(Disclaimer: I received this free book from Edelweiss. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)I admired Millie from page one. Millie caught my eye first in Dumplin' - the way she strode onto the stage, the way she was so confident in herself. And in Puddin' it was no different - except way more. Millie is a fantastic heroine. Murphy does a phenomenal job with characters in general, but I think Puddin' is really where Murphy...

Edelweiss provided me a DRC of this book in exchange for an honest review. This wasn't Dumplin', but it was still amazingly adorable and full of feisty young women that any girl would be lucky to be friends with. Even though both girls have budding relationships, the romance is pretty insignificant to the plot--like Dumplin', it's more about surrounding yourself with amazing people and becoming the person you want to be.Millie is by far the best t...
