I'm between 4 and 4.5 stars.Despite taking place in 2015, Cristina Alger's newest novel, The Banker's Wife , definitely has a bit of a ripped-from-the-headlines feel to it, without being sensationalist. One snowy morning at an airport in London, amidst chaos caused by multiple travel delays, a couple quietly and unobtrusively boards a private jet bound for Geneva. Not long after, the plane drops off of the radar, and later, wreckage is found in ...

4 Stars!Thank you to Putnam publishing #partner and GetRedPR for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book! What a solid thriller! I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. It has a very different plot then what I am used to but the change of pace was very welcomed! This story is told from three perspectives: Marina, Annabel and Zoe. They are three women who don't necessarily know each other that well but are all intertwined in the sa...

Thank you to netgalley for my copy of this book in exchange for a review.I was excited at starting this book as it isn’t my usual genre and the subject of hedge funds is not something I know anything about, but boy as soon as I started, it was like a rollercoaster of a ride and once seated there is no escaping until the ride or in this case book is over!Matthew a banker, is killed in a plane crash leaving his widowed wife Annabel to investigate...

4.5 starsThe Banker’s Wife is a fabulous, well-paced thriller that delves into the offshore banking business in Geneva, Switzerland. I was drawn into the story line from the first page and stayed invested in the plot until the cleverly-crafted conclusion. Alger takes the time to explain the world of high finance and hidden offshore accounts while developing authentic and strong female characters who anchor the book. She also effectively crafts ...

It can lead to heartache, desperation, despair, and murder. In this fast paced taunt novel we meet the successful people, those who have money, lots of it, and yet still want more. We meet the deceivers, the liars, the people who will do anything to protect their money, hide it in whateve...

What a page turner! I was worried after reading reviews saying that this story revolved around the Swiss banking industry and hedge funds and lots of other financial dealings I'm completely ignorant of, but it ended up being an interesting part of this story and not difficult at all to get into. This book caught my attention right away. It gets right into the meat of the story from the get-go and never lets up. I was provided an ARC of this book ...

A fascinating and fast-paced investigative thriller complete with strong and smart women characters. SUMMARYA handsome couple boards a private plane in London bound for Geneva. An hour after takeoff the plan drops off the radar, and it’s wreckage is thought to be spotted atop Mt. Trélod, in the Swiss Alps. Among the missing is Matthew Werner, a banking executive at Swiss United Bank, a powerful offshore bank. His young widow, Annabel is left g...

yes. Yes. YES. YESSSSSSSSS! This was the exact book that I needed to read right now folks, you have no idea. Cristina Alger, I am now a new fan of yours and please don't mind my raving right now. Don't be fooled by the "wife" in it's title, because The Banker's Wife is anything but a reiteration of the "girl" and "wife" psychological thrillers that have been mass produced since 2014. The Banker's Wife is completely original, while following a...

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. WOW!!!!!!This book went from 0 to 60 from the first page. I could not put it down. The pace of the storyline was rapid and at times got dizzy from the layers of the plot, yet somehow, with all of the moving parts, this author did an amazing job with threading the plot together. This story is told in 3 POVs and centers around the "Bankers Wife". Annabel is the wife who learns that her husband's pl...

Two women in dangerous situations through no fault of their own.Annabelle was married, but her husband seemed to be married to his job. After a plane crash, she finds out why there had been a plane crash with him in it.Marina writes stories about men like Annabel's husband, but this current story is a bit too dangerous to continue with even though Marina does.Actually a lot of folks seemed to be in danger, and the persons behind this situation ar...

4.5/5The Banker’s Wife is a globe trotting thriller that grabbed my attention instantly and held it throughout. It switches back and forth between Marina, a journalist and Annabel a recently widowed young woman and I loved both of these clever, strong women. They were both incredibly well drawn and believable, and falling down the rabbit hole of offshore banking alongside them was quite the wild ride. There was a slick sophistication to this one...

Lies, secrets, and billions of dollars Oh My! This fast-paced thriller had me on the edge of my seat for the entire ride. Will the truth come out and who will die as a consequence?Journalists, politicians and bankers are all involved in this twisted tale of offshore banking. Marina is a journalist who is about to be married into a prestigious family and give up her career. While vacationing with her fiancé she receives a call from her boss askin...

You know what's great about this type of thriller? Is that it's not completely centered around a death and who-dun-it type of feel. Ok, so it DOES, but it also DOESN'T. Am I making any sense yet? While deaths DO happen (sidebar: I can't remember reading a book in the past few years where death doesn't happen - whether to people, relationships, animals or sanity!), the focus is on this huge potential scandal involving high powered people, a LOT of...

This is a great book about secrets and corruption and money - LOTS of money. It's a clever mystery that keeps you guessing over whether characters are honest or corrupt and your opinion is going to change several times until you get to the fantastic ending of the book. There are two strong female characters that most of the book revolves around - Annabel the widow of a banker killed in a plane crash who left clues behind over what was going on at ...

Strong female characters (who are not "unreliable" for a change!), financial crimes, billions of dollars tied up in crimes, mysterious deaths - what more could you ask for in this financial thriller from Cristina Alger? When journalists begin an investigation into offshore bank accounts that are hiding billions of dollars and all the sudden bodies begin turning up left and right of those who have connections to the money or knowledge of shady doi...

This one was awesome!! This would make one great action movie lol....was enthralled right from the start. Phenomenal writing!! There was a lot of information to take in with this one and a lot of characters to keep track of which was a bit confusing at times but it did not take away from the story! I can tell a lot of research went into this book! Highly recommend for fans of thrillers!

I really enjoyed Alger's first two books (The Darlings and This Was Not the Plan), and her latest is another solid story, with some intriguing twists and interesting characters. Alger heads back to the world of her first book, The Darlings, and in fact, some overlapping characters in the journalists who investigated the SEC schemes of a wealthy well-to-do family. This time around, we have another wealthy NYC family, but this time their hands are ...

I am not ashamed to admit that I know little about the financing world. My husband does our taxes and deals with most health insurance issues. So when I received this book from BOTM, I hoped that the financial terminology wouldn't kill me. And it didn't. Although this book dwells into the dark tunnels of Swiss banking, I didn't feel confused or bored even once. The main focal points of this book were the two heroines, Annabel and Marina. Each of...

With a John Grisham storytelling style, Alger brings a cast of characters full circle. Reading from rotating character perspectives, you come to understand how this Swiss Bank is hiding far my more than it's clients identities, and willing to risk it all to keep their secrets. A financial thriller keeps your running from start to finish.

In the early morning hours a couple is seen boarding a private plane in London during a storm. News soon hits that the plane has crashed in the Alps and those aboard are believed to be dead. Police arrive at Annabel Werner's door to inform her that her husband was aboard this plane and she is now a widow. Annabel is forced into a world of confusion. For starters, her husband, Matthew, never told her he was in London and just who was this woman he...

🌟LOVED IT 🌟 Thanks to GetRed PR and the publisher for this free review copy!.I have been reading fewer and fewer thrillers lately & this is actually my first one of summer 2018. I’m so happy that I waited to read one until I had this in my hands because it was absolutely amazing! Two strong female leads. Fabulous European locations along with New York City. And a twisty-turny financial mystery. What more could you want? Bravo to Cristina ...

Wow! Ms. Alger wrote a fantastic novel about what it takes to survive when you are being hunted for something your husband might have done. We all know that off-shore accounts are a bit suspect but she really brings the seedy underside to life in her novel. We meet Annabel and Marina both who will be sucked into this web of deceit but in very different ways. As the book kept picking up speed, I was hoping our multiple heroines would be able to co...

A can't stop reading, think about it when you're working, kind of thriller. Annabel's husband became a banker for Swiss United almost 2 years ago. What they didn't know when they moved to Geneva was how corrupt international banking is. Now Matthew's dead. His plane crash landed in the Alps and Annabel is left trying to figure out what her husband was working on before his death. Across the ocean, journalist Marina is tracking down the same story...

“The Bankers Wife” by Cristina Alger opens with a cringe-worthy scenario; someone is throwing a temper tantrum in an airport. If that were not bad enough, a storm with strong crosswinds and a downpour of sleet has reduced visibility to virtually nothing. In the midst of the chaos, a phone call reports, “It’s done. Only one flight departed and they were on it.” Less than one hour later over the French Alps, the plane simply fell off the ...

First I want to thank netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy for my kindle. Wow what a ride! Started off a little slow introducing us to Annabelle and marina. The Bankers Wife ... I will admit I'm struggling to review this book kindly. It was a face paced thriller and there was some beautiful foreshadowing going on but that's about all it had going for it.There were several moments where the characters names were interchanged and that mistake drives me bonkers. I mean, I can understand it happening once but after the fourth time I just want to throw my hands up and slam the book down.My second issue is...
