This is a book about learning to be yourself without needing someone else, and a book about loneliness, and a book that occasionally gets really fucking scary. It plays on your deepest fears. It's a page turner — I found myself turning pages so quickly that I got a full 100 pages through without even checking the page count. I am one of those people who obsessively checks page counts. What did this book do to me. I feel like this is a book I re...

This review can also be found on my blog, Dana and the Books. If you're going to read only one book in September, make it The Loneliest Girl in the Universe. I was one of the lucky space troopers who managed to buy an early release copy at YALC back in July. I kept seeing announcements throughout the weekend that it had sold out and were scrambling to find more. When I finally arrived on Sunday, the first thing I did was make a beeline for the Wa...

HAHA. you think you can tell what this book is about from the blurb? no, no. the blurb of this book reminds me of Deadpool's marketing. you know the Deadpool movie poster where it makes it look like a fluffy romantic comedy and then you get in the cinema and there are people being brutally murdered, limbs being hacked off, etc. you're gonna go into this book thinking you're gonna read one thing and then it's gonna tear you, and itself, apart. jus...

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe is another example of great premise going to waste. Whoever writes blurbs at HarperTeen should get a raise because every time I finish a book by HarperTeen I vow to never read anything by them again only to break this resolution as soon as I come across some of their amazing blurbs. Unfortunately, as in the case of this book, great blurb does not guarantee great read.Storytelling - 1 STARSetting of The Loneliest...

My advice... Know as little about this book as you can before reading it!! Some very jumbled thoughts:It started off feeling highly illogical and then I somehow forgot that this messed up logic was annoying me *shrugs shoulders*So I got caught up COMPLETELY in the storyline and well *PHOOOF* any capabilities of thinking like a normal human being I had went out the window. *waves bye bye to my brain*I got increasingly more paranoid as Gabby will t...

"Love take so much energy, and it just leads to pain. I think it's probably best for people to be self-sufficient. If I was strong enough to be independent, then I wouldn't be so desperately lonely. I'm sure of it." This book was cruel. Like the MC, I was led to believe that this is just a sappy space romance. But here's the thing: the blurb was nothing but a self-effacing description of this book and its true purpose was to tear your expectatio...

Nope. Just nope. I think I'm being generous with the 2 star rating, but the book got slightly interesting towards the end, but I still didn't care for it. I didn't care for one aspect of this book. *sigh*

I honestly just thought this book was going to be about a young teenager who falls in love with someone she doesn't know in person. But I was so wrong! There was a twist I did not see coming until it was revealed. A romance with a huge twist. As soon as I hit 100 pages I struggled to put it down! Anyone who loves stories like this I highly recommend you pick it up. I'm really sad this book was as short as it is.

It could have been a bit longer, the ending came quite quickly but I loved it. Even though you spent most of your time with one character in the same setting it doesn't get boring. You're to invested in the backstory and what's about to come.

My favourite Lauren James book yet! She masters all the plot twists and the slow release of information and revelations so you never know who you can trust (just like Romy!) It felt like a very classic psychological thriller set in space while also being completely unpredictable. The setting was so atmospheric and the way the novel progresses is absolutely amazing. As soon as things started to go wrong, I couldn't put the book down. With such a b...

I was so excited to get this book, it was one of my most anticipated upcoming releases for this month, and it did not disappoint.I found the beginning a little slow, like maybe the first 50-75 pages. It’s really well written though! The format is so interesting, it goes from like kind of first person descriptions of Romy’s life, and also emails, audio messages etc. It slowly feeds in more information over the book, and I loved that, it added ...

I surprisingly read this book really fast considering that it was set in a single place for its entirety. I can’t believe how gripping this was! While reading I guess I was mainly terrified by the fact that Romy had been alone on the spaceship for years and years and that she still had to wait like 20 years more without living a proper life. Being alone and stuck in a single place for an unquantifiable amount of time is a new phobia of mine now ...

Even though The Loneliest Girl in the Universe isn't out until September, I had to pick it up because people wouldn't stop talking about it. I'm rubbish at resisting hype and I just had to see what magic Lauren James created this time.I love a good space story and The Loneliest Girl in the Universe made me realise how much more YA sci-fi I need to discover. I obviously do not read/watch enough because I had to engage Lauren in a lengthy conversa...

I read The Loneliest Girl in one sitting, and had an absolute blast! I feel like the marketing is half the magic, because it sets up your expectations so well, that you can only be surprised by the story! Lauren's writing is so entertaining and she handled having (practically) just one character soooo well. I loved how the suspense built, and the ending was really satisfying. It's definitely my favourite of her books so far!

The summary for this book doesn't really prepare you for what is in reality a neat psychological thriller. As others have said, this is a book best read blind, and is the perfect way to fill a rainy day or a chilly night.

“I’ve got the half-real fear that creeps up on you in the middle of the night, making you think that there is a monster in your room.” This should have been a five star reading. The book is a very cool and different take on grief and loneliness. It would have been one of my favorites, but that damn ending... This is a curious little book. We have our main protagonist, Romy. Who is a sixteen year old girl that was born in space. Her parents...

The Loneliest Girl in the Universe is in turns terrifying, with the pitch black coldness of travelling alone in a twenty-year-old space ship that isn't what it used to be, has its ghosts, and is the only thing stopping you from freezing, suffocating, or both; and cutesy and upbeat with the most unconventional kind of blossoming puppy-love you could imagine. These things might sound like they don't belong together, but Lauren James weaves them bea...

I absolutely loved the premise of this and was so excited to get to it. Sadly, I was disappointed. I liked Romy well enough. She’s smart and was more resourceful than I probably would have been. Unfortunately, her inner monologue felt much younger than her 16 year old age and I never really connected to her. Plot wise, there was so much potential. I sped through this story, waiting for the twisty goodness to happen. The build up was slow, but t...

4.5*After being intrigued by friends’ reviews, I just had to read this book. Well, I started and didn’t stop to the end! This is one hell of a really good psychological thriller. You don’t notice it but little by little, the tension builds and you cannot help but get more and more on the edge of your seat! I am seriously impressed. As many have said, read it ‘blind’ to get the full effect ;0)

♦ Video Review ♦The Loneliest Girl in the Universe is a book that will blow your mind for sure, even if you think you know what you're getting yourself into.I loved following our main character Romy on her daily routine and to see her just trying to have a good life on this ship while being all alone. The concept around this is so intriguing and has so much packed into it, you cannot even guess. This book will catch you off guard for sure. A...

How long until I’ll be able to see The Eternity? How long until it will be able to see me? Romy Silvers is farther from another human being than anyone in this universe. Or at least she thinks so. After unfortunate and gruesome set of incidents she's the only passenger — and thus the captain — left on The Infinity, the ship destined to bring hundreds of embrions on Earth II. With every day moving farther from Earth messages from Molly — he...

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher. This in no way impacted on my view.Pretty much since YALC, I heard this book spoken about on twitter, all the time. So when I was offered the chance to review the book, I jumped at it, because everything I'd heard was great - nothing negative at all. The day it arrived, I immediately started it, and didn't stop reading until I was finished. Now, that may make it seem like I loved the book, but...

HOLY WOW, BATMAN. This is not just one of the best YA novels I've read all year, but one of the best thrillers for any age. It's REALLY good, so tense I couldn't put it down and with a kicker of a payoff. I'm going to be shouting very loudly about this to anyone who'll listen - Lauren has done something very special! 12+*Please note: this review is meant as a recommendation only. I don't know what I expected - other than something excellent, of course - but my goodness, I was shocked again and again. I'm rating it 5*, when tbh it deserves its own little galaxy. Lauren is a genius, I cannot even comprehend her magnificent author/scientist brain.
